A House Interwoven with the Journey

This project engages the historical context of Nishimikado, Kamakura, by linking the sequential experience of walking through the city with the spatial organization of the house. The route to the site—passing through the Dankazura promenade, the grave of Minamoto no Yoritomo, and the former residence of Ton Satomi—forms a layered urban sequence that enhances the site's narrative depth. The architecture internalizes this sense of procession: beginning at the entrance and ascending gradually through a stair, hall, dining area, and finally the living room, oriented southward. Moving through the shifting volumes evokes the act of walking through narrow lanes, with bodily ascent and scene transitions woven into the architecture. The journey culminates in a living space with a framed view of Yuigahama Bay—an architectural punctuation to a spatial narrative tied to place.
